Nikon D2Xs with a Nikkor AF-S DX 18-200mm lens at maximum telephoto. 400 ISO; 1/250th; f/8. The 18-200mm is a handy lens for a walk but the results don't 'pop' like a 50mm prime. There again, I would not have got this picture with a 50mm prime.

The old HST 125s no longer ply this route. I rather miss them. If you want to see them now, Great Western Railway retain 24 powercars and 48 carriages to form 11 four-carriage sets for use on local services between Cardiff and Penzance. Additionally, 26 HST sets, each with four or five carriages, have been assigned to Abellio ScotRail and will operate on services from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Aberdeen and Inverness.

The River Avon at Reybridge sometimes bursts its banks and floods low lying land to the east. This timber causeway keeps walkers' feet dry, and separates them from motorised vehicles as an added benefit.
Photographed with a Tamron AF 70-210mm f/2.8 SP LD lens on a Nikon D700. This lens was in production from 1992 to 2003.
Aperture priority; 1600 ISO (ridiculously high); f/32; 1/250th; lens at 112mm.

Railway Bridge, Christian Malford Road

Photographed from the south end. This bridge marks the site of the halt which provided a railway service between 1926 and 1965. A bridge here has existed since 1841 when the railway between London and Bristol opened for business.

The numbers indicate the distance from this bridge to Paddington, the railway terminus, in this case 89 miles and 76 chains (there are 80 chains in a mile, 10 chains in a furlong, 8 furlongs in a mile, but the early railway engineers did not bother with measurements in furlongs). 'MLN' provides further information indicating the bridge is on the Great Western main line.
