Fujifilm X-E1 with Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 R lens. Processed from RAW in Lightroom.
It was a bright cold winter day. At 800, the ISO was much too high and gave exposure of 1/420th at f/13.

Nikon D50 and Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 AF lens, giving a field of view akin to 35mm on full frame. Aside from the excellent colour rendition provided by the D50, it was the last of the entry-level digital Nikons capable of providing the automatic focus mechanism for screw-driven AF Nikkors.

I discovered this orphan photograph on the hard drive. There was an announcement from the computer that the original file had been lost. So I recreated it via a screenshot and a conversion to JPG. I must have deleted it having judged it to be crap. But I like it better now.

Those Gates

The seemingly inexorable decline of these gates is a subject of morbid fascination. People pass by hundreds of times daily noticing to varying degrees the ineffable beauty of their final days, wondering if some human intervention will change the scene for better or worse. Meanwhile, I am compelled by forces I do not understand to record the changes, tiny though they be.
Canon EOS 30D + 18-55mm kit lens. ISO 200; 45mm (72mm equivalent). 1/250th at f/13.

The site of which this is part is under redevelopment. How much longer will this wonderful example of decay remain available? I keep expecting it to be changed, or worse, to vanish altogether. As I remarked of this place on an earlier occasion, the seemingly inexorable decline of these doors is a subject of morbid fascination.
Canon EOS 30D + 18-55mm kit lens. ISO 160; 35mm (56mm equivalent). 1/60th at f/7.1.
I'm not sure that a camera introduced in February 2006 - and then only a warm-over of a model dating from February 2004 - has any business performing as well as it does. And the kit lens is supposed to be nothing special if you read the reviews but given enough light it does quite well.

Pure chance.
Using an old Canon EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM lens from the early days of the EOS system when film reigned supreme. On an EOS 40D it behaves like a 50-200mm (to be precise, 56-216mm), a standard lens with great telephoto capability. It was at full stretch here.

Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens on a Canon EOS 30D camera. ISO 400; f/11; 1/640th; lens at 82mm (field of view equivalent 131mm). I was not following the Sunny 16 rule but I guess it would have worked for this situation.

Ajar (Grey) - Art Begets Art
11 Nov 2018 |
|
The photograph pinned to the dilapidated door is a feature in a folded A2 size exhibition programme provided when visiting Roche Court. It is of a sculpture in bronze, painted grey, by Gavin Turk, entitled 'Ajar (Grey)' which was in the sculpture park when I visited in August, 2015.
Gavin Turk (b 1967) is a British born, international artist. He has pioneered many forms of contemporary British sculpture now taken for granted, including the painted bronze, the waxwork, the recycled art-historical icon and the use of rubbish in art.
