To the Left: An advertisement discovered in a 'She' magazine published during 1966, made subject to selective enlargement and other processing indignities.
To the Right: Another selective enlargement, this one being of the top of an old pair of stepladders frequently used for painting and decorating.
Haunted House

A spooky experience in which a ladies' underwear model from the 1960s is discovered in a contemporaneous edition of a television guide aptly featuring a drama entitled "Haunted House". Wooo.
Pontings and Pettit’s; Nova Magazine, Sewing World…

66 Pontings and Pettit’s are the two old-fashioned ladies of Kensington High Street. The architecture and atmosphere haven’t changed for years and this old-world feel makes it nice to go shopping in them. Ponting’s fabric hall is full of unusual and reasonably priced materials, and they have about the best-stocked household linen department in London. In Pettit’s marvellous underwear department is a treasure trove of old ladies’ vests and camisoles; dyed or with transfers on they make smashing T-shirts. This camisole (left) is in pure wool and delicately knitted like a baby’s shawl. It comes in white and looks perfect worn ...99
The Nova feature dates from the mid to late 1960s. It didn't save Pontings and Pettit's. They closed down in 1970, having operated since 1863.
Superimposed on the Nova article is a more recent bra fit guide, which seemed somehow appropriate. It was in 'Sewing World' magazine, which folded in 2018 after 22 years' existence.
I can't remember where 'WHERE' came from. Probably also Nova magazine.

Because I created this collage on a computer, and made this picture by simply photographing the screen, it has never had much fidelity. I have used Lightroom to attempt an injection of contrast and clarity, not altogether successfully I'm afraid. So I posted it in ipernity afresh just to use picmonkey on the image, because I have discovered that what one photo processing program cannot do, another one sometimes can. And although it is not perfect - nowhere near - it nonetheless is an improvement.
The collage comprises clipped newspaper articles and advertisements; items found in old magazines (some very old indeed); an old knitting pattern cover; a detail from the cover of a book published by university undergraduates in the early 1970s; an old family photograph (but I don't know who they are/were); a detail from a letterpress printing project by Walter Partridge of the Perdix Press; stuff noticed on the internet; and even an original photograph taken on a day out.
Photographed with a Nikon D700 and a 55mm Micro-Nikkor f/3.5 AI lens direct from the computer screen.
New Peter Pan Foundations

Peter Pan Foundations, Shepherd Street, Mayfair, London. 1966 'She' magazine advertisement. With some adaptations, including small ads from an 'Evening Standard' of similar vintage. A grunge-free edit with a sprinkling of Harpic. Not everyone will know what Harpic is/was.
The original Harpic lavatory bowl cleaner was invented by Harry Pickup (hence the origin of the name Harpic). It was chiefly bleach in powder form. It hasn't been on sale in shops in the UK for a long time, and even overseas, where Harpic products are apparently still available in some countries, the powder form seems to have been long discontinued.
A great shame, because it was useful in sanitising crap photographs.

Photographed direct from the screen from the earlier picture with a yellow acetate superimposed. It still wasn't right so I adjusted the tint in Lightroom. Every time you pull this stunt the image degrades, like a bad copy on a dirty photocopier. And oddly, it looks improved over the advertisement clipped from a 1960s magazine. At least, I think so.
