No Bells, No Whistles, No Worries

20 Oct 2024 5 2 87
A wet day at the start of August. Nikon D50 + Tamron AF Zoom 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lens. The Nikon D50 dates from June 2005 until November 2006. When this picture was taken in 2016 it had been superseded several times. If you wanted a cheap digital SLR camera and you didn't care if it got bashed or stolen or wet, this was for you. It was liberating to be free from any anxiety over kit. That's why I favour elderly digital cameras. No bells, no whistles, no worries.

Being Blue in Swindon

25 Feb 2023 2 152
Before an eccentric edit involving conversion to B&W, cropping, powerful filters and finally, overlaying the result on the computer screen with a blue acetate and photographing it for its final edit ... this was a fairly ordinary photograph taken in The Parade shopping centre off Fleming Way in Swindon on 21 June, 2012 at half past one. The melancholy look on the young woman's face remains memorable ten years later, whereas the other photographs of that day are largely forgotten.

Nikon D90 and AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G lens. I made thousands of photographs using this lens. It was not the best made lens (plastic mount, for a start), nor much good at controlling distortion (useless in fact), but for sharpness it was remarkable.

January. Early Afternoon

Canon EOS 40D + EF100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM lens at 130mm. I never felt this kit delivered as I expected. Yet with a bit of post-processing some sort of atmosphere has emerged.
