The first of two photographs, out-of-focus through carelessness on my part, and remedied for the second photo posted earlier. Originally in landscape orientation (which flat-footed the miserly three point AF system) and cropped square with conversion to black-and-white. Shot with a Nikon D40 with a Tamron 35mm f/1.8 lens. Field of view equivalent to a 50mm lens on a full frame camera. 400 ISO; aperture priority set at f/5. Shutter 1/400th.

The Oudolf Field at Hauser & Wirth, Bruton. The gallery is in the distance; this was shot from near the Radić Pavilion using a Nikon D40 with a Tamron 35mm f/1.8 lens. The field of view with this lens is equivalent to a 50mm lens on a full frame camera.

Art is at its zenith when it is useful as well as beautiful. The Radić Pavilion in the Oudolf garden at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset is an amazing and sublime structure. It must be well anchored to stay put in the gales of February, 2020.

I met a fellow photographer in the garden of Hauser & Wirth in Somerset. She kindly agreed to have her picture taken. It's wonderful when this happens.

Photographed in the garden of Hauser & Wirth at Durslade Farm, Bruton, Somerset. This meadow garden was designed from scratch by Piet Oudolf, a Dutch landscape designer who works chiefly with perennials. It is quite distinctive and different from other gardens open to the public which I have visited.
Nikon D2Xs + Tamron 35mm f/1.8 lens. 100 ISO; f/2.2; 1/500th.

Nikon D2Xs + Tamron 35mm f/1.8 lens. Like a 50mm lens on a full frame camera - where many photographers started.
What I like about the D2Xs: you have a button for all the actions you want so you don't need to delve in menus; it's comfortable in your hands despite being heavy; when used at 100 ISO the pictures are as clean as you could hope for (just don't expect the same at higher ISOs).
What I like about the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 lens: the optics are excellent; it can focus really close to the subject; it has image stabilisation allowing a slower shutter speed than would otherwise be advisable.
For this photograph the ISO was 100; the shutter was 1/40th; the aperture was f/5.6.

It is called 'Sunny Lane', and is between Bruton and Cole. There is a tearoom at Cole and the satnav selected this, the most direct route. There are no crossing places and it is mostly a steep hill.
I went back on foot to photograph it and met a car with two passengers descending as I had done an hour before. I pressed myself into the bank and the car stopped briefly. The passenger said that the satnav had brought them this way. They were en route to Cornwall. I still can't work out how Sunny Hill becomes part of a journey from Somerset to Cornwall.
Photographed with a Nikon D700 and Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AI-S lens.
