Tiller Girl (Colour)

Posted earlier and appearing anew following an improvement in processing revealing greater detail and vibrancy. Apologies to all who have viewed it previously. Photographed using a Canon EOS 40D and a Canon EFS 18-55mm lens at Semington on the Kennet and Avon Canal, Wiltshire. All canal narrowboats are steered by a rudder connected to a tiller. It looks easy but it takes practice and a good eye to anticipate the necessary adjustment. This girl was manoeuvring her boat into position to enter a lock. She did it with aplomb. 'Aplomb' is an unusual word. It is, however, easier to spell than 'manoeuvring'. Words derived from French can be challenging to spell correctly. But I digress ...

Kennet and Avon Canal, Wiltshire. John Tiller invented precision dancing in 1890. The dancers linked arms and kept strictly synchronised routines, often including high kicks.
