The Limbo Connection's photos with the keyword: clothes

I tried several lenses to photograph this scene: a 28-80mm cheap zoom, mainly at the telephoto end; a 50mm; a 35mm with image stabilisation and close-focus capability; and an old 55mm macro. I thought the 35mm had the best chance of getting the picture, but in the end it was the 50mm. When I started out in photography it was with a 50mm (well, a 58mm to be exact). On all subsequent cameras I first got a 50mm until eventually digital claimed me and I bought a Nikon D60 with an 18-55mm kit lens. But I soon added a 50mm equivalent to take some proper pictures.

Nikon D3s + Tamron AF 70-210mm f/2.8 SP LD lens made sometime between 1992 and 2003.

It is said that the 135mm prime lens is vestigial in this age of fast telephoto zoom lenses. Countering that opinion I would simply say that the lens is much cheaper and much lighter in weight.

Nikon D3s + AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 lens.

Nikon D2Xs + Nikkor-O.C Auto 35mm f/2 lens. Lens made circa 1973. Camera on 800 ISO - not where the D2Xs does its best work, but needs must if no flash. Aperture wide open at f/2. High speed crop deployed, making the field of view experience 2 x 35mm. (All the characteristics of the 35mm nevertheless remain). Using high speed crop is handy for getting in closer, but it halves the MP from 12 to 6 and it would therefore be a better idea to change to a lens with greater telephoto capability.

Nikon D3s with Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 lens. 1/80th at f/8. Stratospheric ISO. With this camera, slow lenses get a tune-up and a big bore exhaust.

One very helpful benefit of digital photography is the ability to see whether the effect you want has been achieved. This was shot with a Nikon D700 and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI-S lens set at f/5.6.
