What could be more stylish than being a blonde wearing sunglasses? Nikon D2Xs + 18-200mm lens.

The Prince agreed to the sunglasses. Since he wore similar himself, he could hardly do otherwise. But he was troubled by the red lipstick. It was designed to inflame and arouse. Indeed, it did inflame and arouse. That was the whole point of it. That was the whole trouble. He said he would make his decision tomorrow, after the rain had stopped.

No sign of the Delrons on this occasion. They may have been given shore leave.

We Are Shopping. We Do Other Things As Well.

A healthy diet. Keeping in trim. Household economy. Being a blonde and wearing sunglasses. Style icons in a country town. Perhaps you can speculate regarding the other things these typical shoppers enjoy or endure.

Market Day

Devizes, Wilts. Photographed in 2012. Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro + Nikkor AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED. Processing notes: This was always a JPEG and thus scope for improvements is limited. Fuji colours are usually well saturated and that seemed to work against me with this photo. I put it through the old version of PicMonkey which still survives on the ipernity platform and made distinct improvement to the colours; then I wondered what it might look like in B&W and on a whim used a Tri-X filter. Finally I restored some of the colour, keeping it muted, and settled for what you now see above.

Returning To Their Roots

07 Jul 2020 220
People buying fruit and vegetables in the open air, in circumstances where they can reach in and explore the texture and rub the soil remaining on the surface, are doing something pretty primal. There is a dichotomy between what they are doing now and what they did an hour or two previously when they put on designer clothes and elevated sunglasses above their forehead. Metaphorically - and for real - they are returning to their roots. Converted from colour with a Tri-X filter simulation. Tri-X provides a rich, grainy texture and tonal response to certain colours such as skin tones.

Anticipation

24 Aug 2019 9 9 234
Nikon D2Xs + Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 lens. This is a tiny file because it was shot as a jpeg and subsequently cropped. Being a slow learner, it did not occur to me for some years that a zoom lens which terminated at 50mm did not suit my style. The photography books advise 'get closer'. That's a bit impractical when there's a canal between you and the subject. Important points: 1. Shoot RAW and process in decent software. 2. Don't bother following other people's advice (see 1 above). 3. There is no windlass in this picture (but there ought to be).

The Fire Eater's Assistant

Tiller Girl (Colour)

17 Nov 2016 1 228
Posted earlier and appearing anew following an improvement in processing revealing greater detail and vibrancy. Apologies to all who have viewed it previously. Photographed using a Canon EOS 40D and a Canon EFS 18-55mm lens at Semington on the Kennet and Avon Canal, Wiltshire. All canal narrowboats are steered by a rudder connected to a tiller. It looks easy but it takes practice and a good eye to anticipate the necessary adjustment. This girl was manoeuvring her boat into position to enter a lock. She did it with aplomb. 'Aplomb' is an unusual word. It is, however, easier to spell than 'manoeuvring'. Words derived from French can be challenging to spell correctly. But I digress ...

Indian Summer

11 Sep 2015 1 155
After a disappointing August, some bright sunshine to cheer us up. Nikon D2Xs + Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5 + Nikon Teleconverter TC-16A. The EXIF data shows '134.5 mm' because I set the camera for a 135mm focal length to compensate for using a teleconverter with the 105mm lens. 135mm is, of course, not 105 x 1.6 but it's close enough for metering.
