Music and Movement

'Music and Movement' was a BBC series ('Music and Movement Stage One') provided for schools and broadcast on radio from 1934 until 1969.
During some of those years 'radio' was more commonly known as 'wireless'.
None of this has anything much to do with the photograph, which incidentally would probably have been called a 'snap' during the same period.

A secondhand Canon PowerShot compact camera bought for no other reason than it would fit into a coat pocket. When framing this scene the camera slipped just as I pressed the shutter. I've posted the picture before, but not in B&W, which fascinates me more and more these days.

Looking back;
Oh, way back -
So long ago now -
I would say
Without a moment's hesit
Ation
That I have been fascinated
With bus stops for
Oh, a long long time.
With buses,
Less so.

Shot with a Nikon D2Xs and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens on a TC-16A teleconverter (field of view like 120mm on a full-frame camera).
ISO 640; aperture priority set at f/11. The small aperture resulted in a shutter speed of 1/30th; this has given a blur caused by the movement of the girls as they passed. Although a tight composition in the first place, I have cropped it further for effect and presented it in black-and-white because the colours were fighting with one another.
The whole picture is entirely accidental. I should have used a lens with a wider angle. the shutter speed ought to have been at least 1/125th, possibly 1/250th. But then it wouldn't have resulted in this picture. Life is full of chance.

Things I have Learned Concerning the Photography o…

35mm Nikkor-O.C f/2 lens on a Nikon D2Xs. ISO 100; f/2, 1/2000th.
Things I have learned concerning the photography of snowdrops:
Snowdrops grow in clusters. If the front is in focus, the back probably won't be. You need a small aperture to get the necessary depth of field.
You can lie out on the ground to get composition and focus right. I didn't. I knelt on a plastic bag and held the camera close to the ground. I pointed the lens towards the snowdrops and set the focus to the distance I guessed was right.
I used a fast shutter speed and a wide aperture. This was almost as wrong as it was possible to be.
I don't think photographs of snowdrops are very interesting anyway. I only came here for a cup of coffee and a cheese scone.

Just another assignment. A Tuesday, I think.
A Tuesday in January.
Bloody cold in that old Manor House.
And the car wouldn’t start.
Don’t know how I’ll get back.
What’s that? No make up? OK.
Let’s get on with it.
You stand there. By the window.
Look out. Look wistful.
Can you do bed hair?
That’s nice.
Sorry it’s so cold.
No heating in these old places.
Thank God that’s finished.
I didn’t like the look of that chair
where they put my clothes.
Still, too cold for fleas this weather.
I hope.
He could have given me a lift.
The bus is late.
Wonder what I’ll have for dinner tonight.
Must get some warmer shoes.
They say it’s going to snow.
