Kennet and Avon Canal, Wiltshire. John Tiller invented precision dancing in 1890. The dancers linked arms and kept strictly synchronised routines, often including high kicks. All canal narrowboats are steered by a rudder connected to a tiller. It looks easy but it takes practice and a good eye to anticipate the necessary adjustment. This girl was manoeuvring her boat into position to enter a lock. She did it with aplomb. 'Aplomb' is an unusual word. It is, however, easier to spell than 'manoeuvring'.
