HEPCO 69/7.2kV - Iroquois Falls, ON

07 Apr 2022 1 91
HEPCO (Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario), now part of Hydro-One. This pole is part of a heavy-duty "wishbone" line that goes for several miles and besides most of the insulators being replacements, remains mostly unmolested for the most part. This line might've been rebuilt at least once or so. There's another "wishbone" line w/o the underbuild that runs parallel across the road. 69kV for the transmission overbuild. The underbuild seems around 7,200V. Converted to Y at some point from assumed Δ. Note the glass pin-top on the left wire (converted to neutral). src: G00gle Maps

Another 1970's CL&P construction with a wide wooden brace. This tap setup appears to have been for two-wire 4.8kV until they converted it into single-phase 8kV. Source: Google

The single-phase tap line here is 7,620V WYE. Note the old spool bracket with only the neutral wire being used now. Source: Google

Classic 1970's CL&P with 15kV-rated A.B. Chance "radio-free" insulators. U.S. 7 nearby I remember had poles of this specification until the complete rebuild. Source: Google

You can see the conductors go from covered to bare (aluminum I believe), which porcelain insulators are much more likely to show up. Originally this pole likely had 15kV Chance "sky glaze" porcelain insulators. Fortunately the covered conductors are the short section of the line. Source: Google Maps

One of the longest running construction styles of CL&P to date, which began in the early 1980's with 15kV-rated Hendrix polymer insulators, though they didn't become widespread until between 1995-2000. I don't think this pole had any transformers until just few years ago. Note the line in the background, which follows U.S. 7, once had mix-and-match of 1950's-90's style crossarm constructions and then the WHOLE line was replaced exactly 10 years ago with more modern CL&P constructions all the way through, turning it into a generic line. :( Source: Google Maps

APS 12kV - Cave Creek, AZ

An UGLY, soulless post-2000 APS pole, though it's not a common APS specification if I recall, since they use mostly grey steel poles. TEP (Tucson Electric Power) has these same monstrosities popping up all over their grid. NOTE: This pole has since been removed since this section of the line has been put underground during 2013. Kind of ironic and a good thing to happen to this pole!

DP&L 12.5kV - West Milton, OH

A nice late 1950's DP&L pole. When inspecting a branding, many times the most difficult section to read is the year, unlike the brand name or the height. But the pole read: SWP 1959 SPC Class 4 40'.
