A view of the starboard side. An exciting day today as I finally got the 'boot topping' or waterline painted. She starting to look quite smart now. The life belts are piled up on the bow ready to be taken away and cleaned. The lighting isn't great here on this picture from my phone.

Some of you may be aware that I recently quit my job of nearly 11 years as Captain with Cardiff Waterbus. This is because I've "sunk" my life savings into this little boat, which I will be operating on my own this year. I will be trading as the The Open Boat and I've already started on my website, the beginnings of which you can see here www.theopenboat.co.uk The boat is called Daffodil and is designed to look a bit like a Steam Boat. This picture was taken not long after she was lifted from the water into the yard, where I am now scraping and painting everyday!! She already is looking a lot smarter than this picture taken on my mobile phone. My first ever foray into the world of self-employment, wish me luck everyone and pray for a dry summer!! I maybe a little quiet on flickr for a while as I'm devoting most of my time to this project.

Today I added the vinyl lettering. Very tricky! You only get one chance to do it right. And once it's on it's on!!

Daffodil is now finished externally. Just a few engine tweaks and deck paint to do!
