Banqueting Hall

26 Mar 2010 78
This medieval hall was built between 1388 and 1400 for the Earl of Huntingdon, half-brother to Richard II. After he was beheaded, the Crown owned the estate until it was acquired in 1559 by Sir Arthur Champernowne. The Champernowne family lived in the Hall for 366 years. The hall was mostly derelict by the time it was bought by the Elmhirst family in 1925. They renovated the buildings, replacing the magnificent hammerbeam roof on the Great Hall.
