This is one of my many favourite walks. So far Spring has been lovely in the north east of England. The weather has been kind after all the awful gales we had in the winter and the trees have put on their leaves without damage.

The trees around a local golf course. The leaves are beginning to open and look lovely in the late afternoon Spring light. The shadows enhaced the scene. We dont usually have access to this area as it is members only. Nobody about - so we had it all to ourselves (a bit naughty!) The following photos are from the same place.

This is half way up the huge trunk of an old Beech tree. Do not have an ID ?- not even sure it is fungal. Ideas anyone? It is approx the size of an apple.

........a very small squirrel and extremely fast. It eventually paused to look down at me for a few seconds. Squirrels seem to be having a good winter this year, plenty of food about and mild weather.

One of many old trees the latest storm has felled. Most of those that have fallen seem to be rotten at the base and at the end of life anyway. However, this was not obvious when they were standing.

Several of the Beech trees have been victims of the storm. It is obvious from the base that they were rotten. This did not show when they were standing.

Another Beech victim. There are many left standing and I hope they remain so. However, if this one is also rotten at the base, how many more are like this?

This is one of several Sorbus felled in the storm. Again it is obvious that the trees are rotten at the base. I hope that they will be replaced.

A lovely place to walk. Unfortunatey the latest storm we had in England did some damage to a few of these. However, most of them are still standing.
