Looking into the Future

This image has a great deal of personal resonance for me, for reasons that I won't go into. For me, it epitomises the uncertainties and anxiety of new motherhood. The mother leans protectively over her child, tenderly holding the little foot, while the baby sucks on her fingers and gazes out at her new world. It was a real "grab" shot, made in an instant, with no chance to focus carefully or change camera settings. I have removed an unattractive background and converted to mono.

Gem

Gem is a delightful, elderly Jack Russell Terrier. She gets around a lot more slowly and creakily these days than she did when she was a scampering pup, but has remained interested in all that life offers her. You can see much of her inquisitive and enquiring nature in this portrait.

Suspicion

I'm currently re-visiting some older images that I like the subject and composition of, but maybe hate the colours. This was taken back when I first got the camera and I had no idea how to control colour - still often struggle with it - but I like the image. Some of you may recognise a small part of it that appeared a long time ago in my stream. What I especially like about this is the two differing expressions - the somewhat anxious new mother, looking down with love and the suspicious baby, almost glaring out at the world.
