Royal Roost 10

25 Aug 2024 9 10 262
Another small group graduates to its own album today!! :) The music I listened to while putting this together was actually a modern group from Northern Nigeria: Etran de L'Air. Of course, multiple Jazz artists toured the world in the 20th Century and heard music from all over Africa. Then they brought what they learned back home. Had we not lost Parker so soon, perhaps he would have done so as well. The text is Bill Miner's, from the back of Savoy's 1977 reissue LP of 1949's "Charlie Parker: Live At The Royal Roost." Shown smaller than the original completed size of 3300 X 3525 pixels. Have a great week, Friends. <3

Woman and Bird 5 (I Sing For You)

"All you've gotta' do is let me love you, Play music with me, I'll sing for you. It's so easy, you just have to want to... You play for me, and I'll sing for you..." The rough for this was very somber, full of dark purple and stark white and frowning mouths. I have no idea what went wrong. :D "I Sing For You" is from 1992's *Potato Radio* CD by the amazing Jazz artists Nancy King (b.1940) and Glen Moore (b.1941). (music link) Best New Year's wishes to everyone who stopped by in 2023. Thanks so much. <3 [minor edits made 1/12/24]

I was so close to adding an actual photo of Bird himself. No. 10 will probably get that, when it's eventually made. Shown smaller than the original completed size of 1550 X 3023 pixels. See one original source here .

The "AABA" is a nod to the chorus of the Gershwins' "I Got Rhythm." Charlie Parker and other Jazz musicians used as a foundation for their own compositions. (per Wikipedia) Shown smaller than the original completed size of 2400 X 1800 pixels. See one original source here .

Good Morning 3

"Oh, clouds above me Don't take the dream to which I cling, Where is the sun? Oh, where is the one I love?" -- John Redmond/Lee David: "Where Is The Sun?" A rare use of both Lens Flare and some of the Color Blending option. Shown smaller than the original completed size of 1320 X 1500 pixels. See one original source here .

OK, it's No. 5, but the pretend wood almost forms a "4." I guess that's because it's now Passover, the season of the Four Questions. In an essay about Charlie Parker, the critic Leonard Feather remembered how the great Jazzman admired Beethoven, because "He shook his fist at the world. They just didn't understand." So I added a snippet of the 4th Symphony, too. Shown smaller than the original completed size of 4200 X 3675 pixels.

I'm pleased with the background crosshatch effect here. It's a combination of the "Colored pencil" filter and squares of white knit wool, in closeup. Shown at its original size of 1016 X 1016 pixels. See one of the original sources here .
