Another small group graduates to its own album today!! :) The music I listened to while putting this together was actually a modern group from Northern Nigeria: Etran de L'Air. Of course, multiple Jazz artists toured the world in the 20th Century and heard music from all over Africa. Then they brought what they learned back home. Had we not lost Parker so soon, perhaps he would have done so as well. The text is Bill Miner's, from the back of Savoy's 1977 reissue LP of 1949's "Charlie Parker: Live At The Royal Roost." The "AABA" is a nod to the chorus of the Gershwins' "I Got Rhythm." Charlie Parker and other Jazz musicians used as a foundation for their own compositions. (per Wikipedia) Shown smaller than the original completed size of 2400 X 1800 pixels. See one original source here .

OK, it's No. 5, but the pretend wood almost forms a "4." I guess that's because it's now Passover, the season of the Four Questions. In an essay about Charlie Parker, the critic Leonard Feather remembered how the great Jazzman admired Beethoven, because "He shook his fist at the world. They just didn't understand." So I added a snippet of the 4th Symphony, too. Shown smaller than the original completed size of 4200 X 3675 pixels.

I got a little obsessed with Blending functions. I wanted the duplicate chickens to look as if each one had different markings. The "wood" background texture is actually the Fibers filter. Shown smaller than the original finished size of 1334 X 1875 pixels. See one original source here .

I'm pleased with the background crosshatch effect here. It's a combination of the "Colored pencil" filter and squares of white knit wool, in closeup. Shown at its original size of 1016 X 1016 pixels. See one of the original sources here .

The idea popped into my head while I was enjoying another listen to Charlie Parker: Live At The Royal Roost . So naturally the colors and canvas proportions came more or less from the LP's cover. Yes, I know Parker didn't play the tenor. But I didn't have all that many images of musical instruments in my swipe file. :o I did give it that white tint as a nod to his famous plastic Grafton, though. Lots of screwing around here with the Art History and other paint brushes, along with the Clone Stamp and the Smudge tool, etc. Chaos, I tell you! But the giant disc of cranberry jelly at the bottom made it somewhat seasonal for its original posting date.
