Martinez, California. At the fruit ranch he owned and managed as an older man, at the end of his wanderings in the wilderness. Most of his well known writings were completed here. Now owned and managed by the National Park Service as a museum. The lovely grounds tell the fruit-ranching story.

A valued lookout point since the 19th century and Anglo settlement in California. A walking trail runs for miles along this coast.
