Vermicelli3

aka A Frivolous Rehashing of/Homage to Boudou sauvé des eaux. The kindly Red Vermicelli have rescued a peculiar little creature from the riotous waters of the stream that crosses their garden. Ignoring what the beastie might be or where it may come from, they have decided to adopt it on a finders keepers basis. But the well-meaning worms don’t know that the creature, whose name is Rory Sharptail McDuffie, is the spirit guide and bodyguard of a very rare species of moth that lives in the wilds of Northern Scotland; he ended up in the river of the garden of the Vermicelli owing to a freak accidental encounter between the prevailing winds in that neck of the woods and a stray singularity. The moth will be appearing in a doddle of her own, with her very own heroic tale, soon-soon, inshallah.

My love of all things Japanese (minus Shinzō Abe) began, more or less, with a film that bowled me over when I was 18 or thereabouts: Masaki Kobayashi’s Seppuku (called Harakiri in the West). I was gobsmacked and in love. Shortly after this revelation I saw Kwaidan and the love became a passion. Recently I managed to find a full version of Kwaidan on YouTube and my love was renewed and refreshed and re…whatever. This is my tribute to him, and to it, and to all the wonders that Japan has given the world of the arts. Doumo arigato gozaimasu, Kobayashi san. May your elementary particles spread endless joy across the continuum.

Bogus Heraldry aka Shoggy Apotheosis II. To call this a coat of arms would be inaccurate, not to say pretentious. But it amuses the Shoggies to play with specific terminologies and so they have cooked a mock-heraldic description for my modest (and inadequate, to be sure) attempt to capture their wondrous essence. Argent and sable with a touch of gules in a fur of bedlam on an inverted chief ordinary of Mountains of Madness and Mother Chaos. Two lazy semi-rampant Argentinian jaguars (La Aguada culture) frame the motto: One Is All and All Are One. PS. Linguistic appeal. Any Latinists willing to correct the motto welcome. It’s straight out of some online translator or other (I forget which one) and I don’t trust online translators. Thank you kindly.

They just don’t make them like him anymore, do they? :-) Just a little something to mark the passing of one of the greatest irritants of the Bastard Right ever. Made out of residual affection for the guy and possibly “con ánimo de offender”* the bien-pensants on Main Street. Hasta siempre don Fidelito. It was a pleasure to have known of you. *Con ánimo de offender. (With the intention of offending/Aiming to affront). A collection of some of the most delightfully outrageous articles published by Arturo Pérez Reverte in El País, some ages ago. Highly recommended.

This is for Dr. Paul Myron Anthony Linebarger, aka Cordwainer Smith -long time no read but obviously not forgotten. And for my compadre Patricio, also a great believer in the things that dwell "at the bottom of one's head".
