This peaceful scene was photographed in the English city of of Gloucester in about 1980. Today, the water features have gone; unfortunately Kings Square now looks quite barren.

Early morning workers, and the occasional tourist, cross Westminster Bridge on a cold, dark December morning. In the background is Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

I like this portrait: with its strong diagonal lines, eye contact with the photographer, out of focus background, and bygone atmosphere. Then again I might be a bit biased as the subject is my mother, Ida Cornick, when she was a bit younger (the year is 1961) and the photographer is my father, Michael Cornick.
