We stopped for snacks along the trail and a tiny chickadee came to see what we were eating, no doubt hoping for some left-overs. They are lovely little birds but tough, being one of the few species to stay all year and brave the bruising winter weather.

A mother deer feeds her youngster. It is not the clearest shot as they were quite deep in the woods, and it does not show in a still image but the young fawn was so excited, waving its tail vigorously.

. A White-tailed deer -Cerf de Virginie-(Odocoileus virginianus) from parc St Bruno, a provincial Park about thirty or forty minutes outside Montreal. I think this one was still quite young. . The park deer are remarkably docile near humans, but they are terrified of dogs. If a dog takes an interest in them they panic, crash through the bushes and make spectacular leaps across open spaces.
