A spiderman performer outside the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto. There was an exhibition about spiders going on in the museum, so I don't know if he was part of the show, or just taking advantage of the moment.

An ancient Egyptian statuette of a servant from the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto. It's a small piece, but three or four thousand years ago someone took the time to carve it, paint it and put it together. Someone knew what it meant and someone put it in a grave, presumably of someone they loved.

This is a cast replica of a huge dinosaur- "Futalognkosaurus" ( foo-ta-long-koh-sohr-us ) - recently discovered in Patagonia. The fossil is colossal and this is a closer shot of the pelvis looking up from between the legs. It was photographed at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto. According to Wikipedia the word “Futalognkosaurus” derives from the local language of Mapudungun : "futa" meaning "giant", "lognko" meaning "chief" (so giant-chief-lizard). It would have been between 26-34 M long (a blue whale is up to about 30m).

Fossil bat DSC 7565

A fossil bat from the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto. About 50 million years old it is called Icaronycterus index which I guess comes from the myth of Icarus, the boy who made a set of wings but flew too close to the sun.

hadrosaur-DSC 7596B-A copy

This is a hadrosaur or duck-billed dinosaur, Edmontosaurus annectens , originally found in Alberta and now in the lobby of the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto. It was a herbivore, and lived about 70 million years ago. The photo is a composite of several smaller photographs taken from close up. This was done first because the fossil is behind a fence-like enclosure to keep hands off, very understandable but it didn’t look very good in the photos. Getting close allowed the fence to be lost. Second, getting close should, in theory, pick up more detail. The joins are a bit “off” in several places but it was the closest to true that I could get.
