Viewed from Douglas [Loch] Promenade ... The combined fence and wall protects the drop from the Promenade down to the beach, depending on what Manannan has done with the beach sand, that drop can be quite a few feet. On the left is Conister Isle, with the Tower of Refuge, built in 1832 by Sir William Hillary after the wreck of the packet St. George in 1830. Breakwaters & Piers of Douglas Harbour. On the right - that's "Corinthian" not sure of her status, she's moored on the outside of the Victoria Pier. [HFF'd on 19thSept2023 - no visits before 09:00]

Built 1854 to 1895 as a breakwater to protect the mouth of the River Tyne - at least partially to create a safe[-ish] anchorage for naval and merchant vessels. IoM[2] - Port Erin, lifeboat house

The "new" lifeboat house at Port Erin, dates from 1925 (the old house is from 1884) and currently houses an inshore boat, B-813 "Muriel and Leslie" - which is an Atlantic 85 - on station from 2006. She is slipway launched and recovered with a winch.

These weird shaped concrete items are "Dolos" [pl Dolosse] - they were designed for coastal protection and breakwaters, as they interlock and soak up the energy from breaking waves. Their shape tends to keep them intertwined, even if they do move about, when subject to wave action under severe storm conditions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolos
