The "Northern Spire" was formally opened to traffic on 28th August 2018, after well over a decade in gestation [design, planning and fabrication]. Named as a result of a public poll in 2017.
It carries the A1231 over the River Wear, between Pallion and Castleton to the west of Sunderland.
The form consists of a two span cable-stayed structure and is 1102 ft [336m] in length.
The central A-frame - The "Spire" - was fabricated in Ghent [Belgium], and was raised in February 2017; it is 344 ft [105m] in height.
The eye-catching white structure is floodlit at night.

ESP - 93a UK : Erasmus Bridge [2 of 2]

The waterway is so busy I had to wait only a minute or so for a large vessel to pass. (but still not tall enough to need the bascule section opened).
This combined cable stayed and bascule bridge is an important part of Rotterdam (built in 1986-1996).
and the landmark is named after a famous humanist.
It forms part of Rotterdam's official logo, so was also included as part of the 93a UK's logo.
