Rhydyronen is, technically, a request stop. However, almost all my trips on this line have stopped here ! . Noted the new / refurbished picnic table and older bench [one of several, most with memorial plaques]. The oak tree is attempting to eat the sign ... In the spring this station has a spectacular display of daffodils.

In the market place at Whitehaven are these two statues, representing the sailors & maritime history of this town. Back in the 18th century Whitehaven was, after London, the second busiest port of England. This is by tonnage from 1750 to 1772, with export of coal - mainly to Ireland / Isle of Man - and trade with the American colonies.

Remarkably comfortable places to sit & eat, to relax or just watch the sea. Someone - I presume the local council - has been improving the seafront facilities at Roker.

Thought for the day outside the House of Manannan, Peel. [Part of this museum was the Peel railway station]. Picnic tables give a good view of the harbour / marina and Peel Castle in the distance. . Looking westwards along the Prom to the distant pier, over the beach "gravel & shells" and a lonely picnic table, there's a few more behind me, and a large car park to the right. It's at the end of a sunny & hot Sunday afternoon, and people are finally coming off the beach and heading home - or for food and a drink. There was a complementary supply of bottled water in the car park, which seemed to have been both a good idea and very popular - hopefully stopped some heat related health incidents..
