Even lagged pipes suffer damage from minus 13.5 degrees centigrade! When the thaw arrives, we found this downpour. Unfortunately, the ground underneath was still cold enough for ice to form.....skating, anyone?

These valves and fittings are from a redundant fire sprinkler system. It had been 13.5 degrees below the freezing point of water for several days. The force exerted by the expansion of water as it freezes can be seen from the split and cracked valve casings.
