Contrast in lifeboat designs
- ON594 "William Riley" is a 34' self-righting 10-oared pulling lifeboat (Ruble Class) from 1909.
- ON872 "George Elmy" is a 35' 6" non selfrighting Liverpool motor lifeboat. (More details will be posted in ..........

The restored lifeboat, with some of the trust and volunteers responsible aboard, about to berth at the pontoon. The North Dock has recently been restored as well; transformed from a coal shipping port into a marina for fishing and pleasure craft.

"George Elmy" leads the way into the North Dock - as she passed the gates there was an almighty clap of thunder, despite the pouring rain earlier, the only rumble all day. A comment, perhaps?

Touching the stern onto the slipway, symbolically finishing the service interrupted by the fatal capsize in 1962. A wreath had been laid a few minutes earlier at the harbour bar. I wasn't the only one crying at this point.

The second set of boards, including the gold one about the loss of the "George Elmy" plus the crew and survivors from the coble "Economy" (nine lives lost by the lifeboat capsizing on the harbour bar)

All the callout boards on display in the old boathouse, now a museum, at Seaham Harbour. The main display item is motoring down from Tynemouth....the restored "George Elmy"

this merle / tricolour border collie had been found straying in Seaham a couple of days earlier. not happy in strange and very noisy crowd.
