The stone arches of the bridge at Pooley Bridge. This was erected in 1764 {replacing an earlier bridge from the 16th century}. It was washed away on 6 December 2015 when Cumbria was hit by heavy flooding during Storm Desmond, after storm waters scoured the riverbed from around & under the bridge piers.

None of the Isle of Man Steam Packet vessels are in port. Currently [2024] the King Edward pier is being upgraded, at least partially to cope with the "Manxman", with addition of two new steel "dolphins", three new mooring bollards and other improvements. www.gov.im/categories/travel-traffic-and-motoring/harbours/king-edward-viii-pier-upgrade-project Note also - among other features - i) the RNLI boathouse, which currently [2024] contains a slipway-launched Mersey class ALB. [ON1191, the "Joy and Charles Beeby" 12-32, which was previously at Berwick-upon-Tweed, listed in the LB enthusiasts' society handbook as "relief 2023-" ] and ii) the oil / gas terminal not my image : fair use & public information

Another shot of the harbour lights at Whitehaven. They were recently repainted, and look much better for the work. [Next visit I plan to have time to walk out for a closer look]

Looking out past the piers, from near to the route of the coal incline (2015) . I need to re-take this view, as some of the "derelict" buildings have been removed (By 2018) By spring 2023 a carbuncle {water sports centre} is being built - about where the timber "demountables" are in this view. Additionally, I believe the "pit wheel" has disappeared, I know the support frame was in need of repair a few years ago.
