Some daffs are starting to open, and the tip bud on the Horse Chestnut is just breaking open

And all that growth started off as quite small buds, less than a month ago.

The colour and texture of young leaves is such an impressive sight, after the depths of the winter dullness.

A recent burst of wind - a strong breeze - has shaken the leaflets out - which clearly shows off tthe palmate structure.

Some aspects of the compound palmate shape of the leaves are now visible.

The palmate leaflets are opening out, but are still very folded up, maybe even describe the look as crinkled.

You can now see separate leaves as the tip buds begin unfurling.
The anti-rabbit fence is essential - the furry pests will eat bark, buds, leaves, and shoots, given half a chance when their sources of food are more limited in late winter / early spring ...

The top bud is a deeper green and is beginning to swell as the leaves develop, prior to unfurling.

Fully out ...
Just need to protect it from the rampant rabbits. They'll eat bark, leaves and "snap off" lower branches, if they get the chance.
