DMU 158-815 formed our train on our journey to Ashington. The driver has already changed head and tail lights on the turnaround.

Over the R. Wansbeck on the viaduct [looking east towards the A189 road bridge.

The new "end of the line" buffer stops at Ashington ... the passenger trains have a new bay platform, whilst the biomass [freight] trains use the original route, which is double track here. . HFF --- there are extra fences at the moment, as the building complex to the left - which included what was a Wilko - is scheduled for demolition in the near future.

Northern [regional operator] railway routes / network [ a franchised / privatised Train Operating Company but as it failed operationally, it is now run by the government as the Operator of Last Resort but still with many problems ]

Studying the station layout whilst waiting for our train back to Newcastle. The station is actually a newly built bay platform, with the double tracks of the Blyth & Tyne heading off under the road bridge towards Lynmouth Power Station [now running on biomass, not coal]

The Northumberland Line has been [re-]built on the Blyth & Tyne alignment. Reopened to passengers on 15Dec2024 between Newcastle and Ashington. At that point only Manors and Seaton Delaval were ready, the other intermediate stations will follow during 2025. not my image : fair use & public information

This is what is left of the old station buildings at Bedlington [Blyth & Tyne] - The re-opened Northumberland Line will have a station in Bedlington.

The new station at Seaton Delaval, with plenty of protective fences. Other than Manors and the terminal stations, this was the only one ready by the re-opening on 15th December 2024. There is quite a big car park, and [I think] bus interchange facilities.

Caught a suitable bit of wording on the on-train dot matrix / variable message display ... interior view of 158815 on our way to Ashington. [Actually, I was quite surprised my little "point n shoot" was able to capture this without too much distortion]. We took a cheap day return for our excursion from The MetroCentre to Ashington, on the second day of public operations. Not expensive, and there were plenty of other passengers without being crowded.
