The air masses affecting weather the UK experienced in summer 2024. The white "streak" marks the junction between the two zones indicated, and is [very approximately] the route of the upper air "jet" stream - which tends to pull weather systems across into Europe. The wiggles in the jet stream tend to determine if the air masses are cooler or warmer - air flowing to the UK from the south tends to be warmer than that from the north. .
