WSL - Tywyn plinth {4 of 4}

Looking at the plinth from across the High Street, the location is some way from the pavement and quite a height. Should be interesting getting the waggon and it's slate slab in position.

Looking at the plinth from across the High Street, the location is some way from the pavement and quite a height. Should be interesting getting the waggon and it's slate slab in position. The wall is a little more than 1m in height and it's around 10m to the plinth, which is raised another 30cm [these distances are guesstimates from memory].

WSL - Tywyn plinth {1 of 4}

21 Mar 2025 1
Night shot of the recently completed plinth - outside the council offices in Tywyn High Street. Having looked at it in daylight, slate chips have been used as the "ballast" rather than the crushed stone that would be used on a running line. Also, on a pedantic note, the "ballast" should almost cover the sleepers.

WSL - wooden parts assembled

19 Mar 2025 1 1
Having assembled the pre-painted wooden components ... the "axle boxes" are bolted together with the two middle cross bars. Everything is *just* bolted together. The only concession to Welsh weather, apart from extra paint, will be the judicious use of a modern sealant for resisting water ingress. Next phase is fitting the painted coupling bar and the hooks & shackles, plus the load-bearing plates ... The wheelsets are all ready to go [can just see one of four wheels]

WSL - hooks and shackles

14 Mar 2025 11
Finally managed to collect some hooks and shackles. We had to buy new bolts, though. {quite a surprised look on the young lad's face when we went to buy the bolts, one of then older guys took the matter in hand and came back with those shiny monsters ...}

Two slab waggon wheel sets on their delivery pallet. Note the lack of axle boxes. To be cleaned and painted, new bolts will be needed.

wsl - corris slab waggon {6 of 6}

From another [fairly] reliable source, which confirms that this is the Ratgoed Tramway horse and a rake of waggons loaded with finished slabs at the Aberllefenni Slate Works [dated April 1948]. Note the beams and tensioned wires to hold the slabs on the waggon framework. {Scanned image from book / periodical} . Not my Image : fair use & public information
