Two steam waggons in the custodianship of the Ward Family of Denby, Hudderfield.
on the right - CA 170 "Denby Maiden"
Built in 1905 by the Yorkshire Engine Company, wks no.117. The boiler is mounted transversely, at the front of the open cab, there is a flat bed for loads of up to 2 tons.
She is the oldest surviving Yorkshire Engine Company product. Found derelict on a Welsh hill farm and restored by Tom Varley in the 1970s. JC Ward and family have also rebuilt her.
Definitely one of the things I want to take home !

on the left - Standard Sentinel No.1488 "Denby Flyer" regno AW 3407. Vertical water-tube boiler at the front of the cab, although there is an apron, the cab is otherwise open fronted.
built ?? and worked at Brown Bailey Steels of Sheffield.
Sold into preservation in 1970, came to the Wards via the Bass Museum, and has been totally rebuilt by them.

Showing most of the controls on the footplate, plus the firebox door. I imagine that it is not easy to fire her when moving.

Weighs 2 ton, 3 gears / speed and can do quite well on roads.
The transverse boiler is most unusual.
