Top ten hottest days in Wales, according to the MetOffice. Unlike in England, three entries are from the 1976 heatwave, with the 18th July 2022 being 1.9C hotter than the second placed event [both in Hawarden, Flintshire]. not my image ; fair use & public information

The July 2022 image shows a much greater extent of dried [brown] vegetation than the previous year, even in areas that don't [normally] suffer from drought conditions severe enough to justify the imposition of hosepipe bans. . . not my image ; fair use & public information

Note that nine of the top ten "hottest UK days" have been post-1990. [the much commented on heatwave in 1976 didn't feature in this official listing] Also, the hottest days have been getting hotter ... . Not my Image ; fair use & public information

After a long period of drought conditions, the extreme heatwave forecast over the period 17th - 19th July 2022, also generated a "Very Extreme" fire danger warning. Unfortunately, some very stupid 1di0ts took the opportunity for committing arson attacks - as well as a number of accidental grass fires occurring in the same period. The results were devastating to the affected areas - including the loss of several homes in a couple of places ! . . Not my Image ; fair use & public information

Recorded temperatures at 16:00 on Sunday, 17th July 2022. And it was markedly hotter for the following two / three days, enough for the MetOffice to issue a RED warning. . Not my Image ; fair use & public image
