Toad, I think, it was just about to leap away - was put down just off the path, in the same direction as it had been hopping.
Picked up from the middle of the path [the dogs of the group following us would have chased it, they were that daft, they had chased several birds already]

This faces the main pond area, a short distance from the large picnic table.

annoyingly, there was a slight breeze, which moved the flower head slightly.

Yews are quick slow-growing trees, so this will be a lot older than the relative thinness of the trunk might indicate.

A somewhat older Yew [Taxus baccata] near to the railway line, note the reddish and fissured bark on the main trunk.

The breeze is moving the thin clouds around, exposing some blue sky - so there has been some sunshine.

From this angle, the pond looks to be quite a decent area, and with several islands and inlets.

The birch and alder on the island are reflected in the still waters of the pond.

Yew tree [Taxus baccata]
Although a decent size, this Yew is a youngster compared to some other specimens in the UK.

Pulled this branch into a better position for a photograph to check the identity.
It is from a Yew, Taxus baccata.

Leaning on the short safety fence and looking into the shallows, [too early for frogspawn !] while Ben investigates ...
This could be a good place for a summer picnic - hopefully, it seems that the sort of people who come here are not prone to dropping litter.
