164 "Covid deaths" in the week ending 25th May 2021. Note the markers for "Bank Holidays" as in the UK these public holidays result in many public (& private) operations being closed.

Increasing numbers of second doses again, still with a significant quantity of first doses being administered. The latter is being driven largely by the presence of "Indian" variant cases in certain areas.

Most statistics seem to be moving in the right direction, with the exception of cases. These are tending to rise again, due to cases of the "Indian" variant.

Seems to be a definite increase in "new cases" - probably due to the "Indian" variant.
Everything else appears to be moving in the right directions - including the inpressive number of vaccinations.

Still mainly concentrating on second doses. However, the increases incidence of infections by the "Indian" variant is encouraging vaccine take-up, as there has been a campaign in the affected areas to increase the proportion of people protected.

Daily deaths have dropped sufficiently that the seven-day rolling average is in single figures. Primarily the result of reduced infections as a benefit of lockdown, but a significant role also played by vaccinations in preventing serious illnesses and deaths.

There is quite a range of "R" in this report. Seven areas have "R" fully or partially above 1.00, indicating an increase in cases - with only four fully under 1.00.
This reflects the presence of the "Indian" variant in certain areas.

The slight rise in new cases shows up in the rolling average. These infections will be mainly the "Indian " variant, with a number of hot-spots around the country.
Whether the vaccination rollout has been fast and extensive enough in the affected areas to reduce hospitalisations and deaths will be seen in the weeks to come.

Still concentrating on administering second jabs, although the number of first jabs has seen a large rise earlier in the month.
Unfortunately, this achievement has not conquered the Indian variant which is still spreading.

The drop in deaths due to both lockdown and vaccinating the most vulnerable seems to be shown quite clearly.
Fortunately, the rapid increase in 'Indian' variant hasn't yet shown up as increased deaths, although that is expected to change soon.

Overall, the number in hospital has significantly dropped from the peaks in January 2021. Interestingly, there are different shapes in the curves for some regions as they experienced the second wave as a double peak - for example NW and NE + Yorkshire - compared to the single peak in London and the SE.

The reduction in cases has seen a consequent drop in hospital admissions. Hopefully, the vaccination rollout will see a further breaking of this link.
As yet, the increased number of cases of the 'Indian' variant are not resulting in more hospitalisations than discharges.

Slow, but distinct rise in new cases - almost certainly the "Indian" variant [B.1.617.2] (the hot-spots are mainly in NW England, Bedford and Glasgow, but other areas have cases as well). [Not all new cases are sequenced]. There are signs of increased vaccine take-up in many of these areas.

Mixed values for "R" - worryingly, several regions have "R" estimates above 1.00, an indication of potential growth in infections.
This will be the "Indian" variant, currently limited to a few areas but could spread far more widely.
