Most of the sharp "dips" are due to "Bank Holidays" when public offices are closed.

By mid August, the excess & covid deaths were above the five-year average.
In the latest week there was an increase to 654 deaths [to 20th August & published on 1st September 2021, allowing for examining delayed registrations].

Interesting. The current, low weekly death rate is below the five-year average, probably because the large number of excess deaths from Covid-19 in the first two waves of infections.
Note the affect of the UK's bank holidays on registrations.

Some sobering information - the world's covid mortality rate and the estimated under-reporting [some of which will be un-diagnosed cases]. Data to 16th February 2021.

Everything going up & down as required. There is a considerable effort underway to administer second doses. The vaccinations seem to be reducing the death rate.

New cases are starting to rise slowly, probably due to the Indian variant [B.1.617.2] other statistics are still decreasing, with the exception of Vaccinations - which are continuing to increase, with a renewed emphasis on first doses in those areas with increasing infections.

The case rate has definitely appeared to stop decreasing on a national scale.
It is likely that zones with cases of the new variant (Indian - B.1.617.2) are masking the decrease in other areas. Hopefully, the protective vaccinations will act to reduce excess deaths in the future.

Another representation of the variation in vaccine update by ethnic group. Certain groups are showing significantly lower rates than others. This is concerning with the emergence of the Indian Variant of Covid-19 [B.1.617.2] and cases of this also appear to be more common in areas with high ethnic populations.

cvd - regional "R" 14th May 2021

A little disconcerting to see that several regions are showing "R" to be above 1.00 - an indication that cases are increasing.
The suspicion is that Variant B.1.617.2 [Indian] is at least partially responsible and it is spreading in areas with lower vaccine uptake.

Still significant variations in vaccine take-up across ethnic groups and by age.
E2A - This worries me with the advent of variant B.1.617.2 [Indian variant], hopefully appropriate education / advice and other measures will encourage the hesitant section in the population of the benefits & safety for themselves and more vulnerable members of society of getting vaccinated.

Updated information charts - showing the apparent correlation between vaccination and economic/social deprivation rates.
Hopefully, these deficits can be addressed before the winter illness season - and another covid-19 wave [new variant].

The only things going up are the number of vaccinations ... although the decline in the number of new cases has really leveled off recently.

Varying timings and degrees of severity for the number of hospital patients in the NHS regions of the UK [April 2020 for May 2021] - the initial control from Lockdowns and then vaccinations can be deduced.

cvd - UK daily deaths (+ ra), 6th May 2021

|
The daily deaths rate has declined dramatically since January 2021. In recent days (late April) the rate of decrease has declined, with the 7-day rolling average on 7/5/21 still in double figures.
Two main factors have contributed to this situation, firstly, the lockdown reducing the infection rate and secondly the role of vaccination in protecting the more vulnerable members of the UK's population, plus the improvements in drugs and treatments available.

cvd - UK daily cases (with ra) 6th May 2021

The decline in the number of new cases has again leveled off - probably because of the presence of "hot spots" of infections with the "Indian Variant". Unfortunately, some of these areas also have a degree of vaccine hesitancy & economic deprivation, both factors that predict excess deaths.
Something for the NHS, scientists & government to watch carefully, in terms of "unlockening" the UK ...
