Talking about the choice to use local charcoal & water power but import the iron ore - from Cumbria - and then export the finished iron. It claims that one mature tree could provide enough charcoal to make two tons of iron. However, this site probably used coppiced woodland to supply the charcoal burners.

Both hearths and the single flue. I think the nearer hearth is the older and the further one was added later.

Both hearths vent via the one flue (chimney stack). Despite the relatively recent restoration, there are some problems with the stonework - the gable end has a long, vertical split (wider than a crack) and there are a few blocks missing from just above the brick-built arch.
