ScI - Clachan Bridge [1 of 2]

19 Oct 2020 6 2 144
Clachan Bridge links Seil Island to western mainland Scotland. Also known as The Bridge over the Atlantic, there is a terrific tidal race that flows under this bridge. At just after 10:05, this is not far short of high tide, and that means there will be a brief period of slack water. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clachan_Bridge

That really is a part of the Atlantic Ocean ... taken at 13:43 on 4th August 2008. Compare the water level in the previous image - taken at 10:05 nearly four hours earlier in the tidal cycle.

ScI - CalMac ferry from Kilchoan

19 Oct 2020 8 2 201
Just managed to catch the ferry from Kilchoan (actually they came back for us as prebooked passengers) as the single track road didn't have passing places to get around cattle, lots of sheep and a few vehicles. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Loch_Linnhe

ScI - early morning yachts

19 Oct 2020 6 1 144
Not that easy to see, and the flotilla kept changing orientation and position ... but I think there were around 45 yachts out in the bay and probably having an early start with a racing event ... and the morning ferry is in-bound. Time for my breakfast !

ScI - oh, deer [3 of 3]

19 Oct 2020 2 139
Driving along, minding our own business when a deer jumped out and then ran along the verge ... paused (this attempt to zoom wasn't that well-focused) and then jumped the fence into the field, before disappearing from view.

ScI - lamp standard

Yes, the lamp post is in the water - it is on the edge of the ferry ramp. The rougher water represents a strong tidal current.

Ferry crossing from Cuan (Seil Island) to Luing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luing That yacht has crossed in front of the ferry - probably carried by the tidal stream, which can attain 7 knots during the higher spring tides. Luing was the original breeding site of a breed of beef cattle, which are a rich red colour. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luing_cattle
