The first half of February 2020 saw the UK subjected to first "Storm Ciara" and then "Storm Dennis" - this produced significant flooding in many parts of the country. This image is a screengrab (small ie 1024 pixels) from the "Sentinel" system - the prominent river system just to the left (west) of centre is the River Severn, showing some extensive flooding above Gloucester, as at 17th February 2020. See all sizes for a slightly larger format, which is slightly more legible. obv not my image : education and fair use.

Further heavy rain on 20th February 2020, after Storms Ciara & Dennis earlier in the month, the ground was easily saturated and watercourses ran very full. The water retention ponds on Slatey Sike are overfull. [image zoomed in to show the situation] The image is very grey as heavy rain was falling from dense and low cloud.

The state of the Cambrian Coast railway at Afonwen after Storm Ciara - there really is a standard gauge line under that debris thrown up from the beach over the weekend of 8 -> 9 th February 2020. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_Ciara After significant efforts, the line was cleared to reopen on 17th February 2020.
