NER1173 - traces of original lining and paint

29 Apr 2024 22
Some traces of the original [most recent ?] livery on the solebar. It is quite possible that as a "First" the lining would have been gold leaf overlying yellow / gold paint, more likely on the bodywork rather than the underframe.

VoR[84] - summer 1984 with No9 in hi-viz livery

26 Jan 2023 87
VoR Locomotive No.9 "Prince of Wales" in the "hi-viz" livery carried in the early 1980s. I recall chasing this up & down the valley a few days before the official unveiling, not that it was easy to miss. If I remember correctly, the colour was described "Stroudley's 'improved engine green'" [which sort of proves he was somewhat colour-blind] - this yellow ochre has been seen on the Bluebell Railway's "Stepney" and also on "Fenchurch". In 2019 No.9 was in GWR livery and carried the number 1213, in 2024 she was in the VoR museum with that number.

66045 - corner plates & painting {1 of 2}

28 Apr 2023 1 77
We managed to repair two corner plates, but the other two had to be completely replaced as they were too wasted & had whole sections missing / patched. . There has been a late change to the livery specification, necessitating a repaint of the base colour. Once that has been done, and the "door bump stops" refitted, the signwriting will be done.

3755 was restored during the 1980s with the assistance of the Manpower Services Commission, to its as built condition and carrying the post-WW1 Crimson Lake livery. In 2019 the vehicle was repainted into the chocolate and cream livery known as ‘pseudo panelling’ where the steel sides are lined out to match the wooden panelling of earlier carriages. didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/article.php/148/no-3755-churchward-non-corridor-brake-third One of three attempts to capture the details of the GWR Crest.

BR971 - lettering done

Lettering for this side is finished, maybe a few little spots to touch up. Then around to the other side ...

RERM - bs - colour matching

28 Feb 2018 1 242
Whilst cleaning the old paint off the original door, some interesting and very well adhering paint was located. It was colour-matched and some avenues of research indicated that at one time the R&ER had used "Furness Red" as their livery. Red shades are notorious for being affected by sunlight, but this appears to be close enough to have been the original colour of the "Big Saloon".
