WR (HVRR) - rowing past Roker pier

Rounding Roker Pier on the way into Sunderland, on the first day of the Henry Vernon Revival Row, with the crew comprising six "Ales Angels" and four from Tynemouth RNLI. Safety boat escorts were "Spirit of Northumberland" and one of Sunderland's ILBs came out to meet us. The water was very muddy ! [Found this on an old camera chip]

Very last stage of her return to Whitby at the end of the Henry Vernon Revival Row, which coincided with the 2008 Harbour Day. The other lifeboats are following in our wake. The cheering and crowds lining the piers and harbour made us all proud, not that you can wave whilst keeping time ! Apparently, or so I'm told, we managed to slightly upstage the SAR Sea King display.

William Riley, and the modern lifeboats at Whitby. Taken on lifeboat day 2008, after "William Riley" had been rowed (by the 'Ales Angles') from Tynemouth to Whitby, to commemorate the journey of the "Henry Vernon" to aid the Rohilla, wrecked at Saltwick Nab on 29th October 1914. To see the crowds on the piers, made all the work worthwhile......and the sponsorship raised some welcome funds for the RNLI.
