The Convict Van and a ex-RNAD box van sit in the late afternoon sunshine, as the day of the Official Opening draws to a close. The box van is the type used to move shells around RNAD establishments, and part of the Admiralty Yard at Peterhead was used to mount guns for defence during WW2, overlooking the South Pier.

Most of the invited audience listening to Nigel Sawford's opening remarks, describing the restoration of the Convict Van and some details of the overall project, at Maud Railway Station Museum. The event attracted a number of passing residents and visitors, in addition to the official guests.

On the 3rd September 2016, the trustees of Maud Station Railway Museum officially unveiled / opened the restored "Convict Van" from the Peterhead Quarry Railway. The cutting of the ribbon was performed by the local MP, Dr E Whiteford.
