Peter Hensman OBE (R&ER Co Chair) gave an introductory speech, thanking (by name) the vast majority of those who had contributed to the re-birth of the Ravenglass Railway Museum. This includes financial ie grants or major donations and physically, such as the volunteers and special contractors who had worked on various aspects of the building and the exhibits within. Lastly, he introduced and handed over to Paul Atterbury.

Paul was kind enough to spend some time with the invited guests, whilst exploring the exhibits. He paused for a short sit down in the Big Saloon and discussed the restoration process with two of the people who built the replica into the museum.

PQR - convict and box vans

The Convict Van and a ex-RNAD box van sit in the late afternoon sunshine, as the day of the Official Opening draws to a close. The box van is the type used to move shells around RNAD establishments, and part of the Admiralty Yard at Peterhead was used to mount guns for defence during WW2, overlooking the South Pier.

On the 3rd September 2016, the trustees of Maud Station Railway Museum officially unveiled / opened the restored "Convict Van" from the Peterhead Quarry Railway. The cutting of the ribbon was performed by the local MP, Dr E Whiteford.
