One of the exterior views of the finished Big Saloon, the museum is largely empty as the special guests are attending a buffet lunch.

Paul Atterbury also unveiled a commemorative slate plaque, which is sitting on a restored porter's "sack truck" (instead of the more usual easel).

As the cut ribbon falls towards the ground, the museum is declared open !

Paul Atterbury gave a short, and with some very entertaining anecdotes, speech before being handed a pair of scissors.

Peter Hensman OBE (R&ER Co Chair) gave an introductory speech, thanking (by name) the vast majority of those who had contributed to the re-birth of the Ravenglass Railway Museum. This includes financial ie grants or major donations and physically, such as the volunteers and special contractors who had worked on various aspects of the building and the exhibits within. Lastly, he introduced and handed over to Paul Atterbury.

Paul was kind enough to spend some time with the invited guests, whilst exploring the exhibits. He paused for a short sit down in the Big Saloon and discussed the restoration process with two of the people who built the replica into the museum.

The Convict Van and a ex-RNAD box van sit in the late afternoon sunshine, as the day of the Official Opening draws to a close. The box van is the type used to move shells around RNAD establishments, and part of the Admiralty Yard at Peterhead was used to mount guns for defence during WW2, overlooking the South Pier.

Most of the invited audience listening to Nigel Sawford's opening remarks, describing the restoration of the Convict Van and some details of the overall project, at Maud Railway Station Museum. The event attracted a number of passing residents and visitors, in addition to the official guests.

Nigel Sawford introduced Dr Whiteford, MP - and the restored Convict Van - to an invited audience.

On the 3rd September 2016, the trustees of Maud Station Railway Museum officially unveiled / opened the restored "Convict Van" from the Peterhead Quarry Railway. The cutting of the ribbon was performed by the local MP, Dr E Whiteford.
