web - lonsdale iron works

This may well have been a lime kiln, but the structure isn't quite right, Further research indicates that it may have been associated with the Lonsdale Iron Works.
(around 1870).

The side of Whitey Rock that overlooks the sea. It is being seriously undercut by wave action.
web - two eras

Remains in the landscape from two eras. The concrete in the foreground is from a WW2 gun emplacement and the stonework in the background is probably a nineteenth century lime kiln (or something from an iron foundry).

Footpath and cycleway along the shoreline, the sea defences are in the form of many tons of rough boulders.
web - twin towers

Whitehaven's twin towers. Probably something to do with industry, most likely mining, as the site of William Pit is close by. Sea action is damaging them, the left one in particular has suffered, especially during the winter 2015/16.
ETA - pretty sure that these two towers collapsed in 2020. I will ask around to see if I can find some information to fix on the actual date.

Looking across at Whitehaven's East Beach, which continues past Whitey Rock, to the left, along towards Redness Point. The Cumbrian Coast railway line runs very close to the sea here, basically it goes along the top of the sandstone retaining / sea wall. The houses on the cliff top are in Bransty, originally a separate village, but now, effectively a 'suburb' of Whitehaven.

Found this curved earthenware tile or maybe brick. It was about 2 - 3 " thick and heavy.
Internal surface maybe salt-glazed.
Struggling to work out what it was, maybe a drain ?
