15Dec2024 Two vessels, Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239, have declared emergency and are sinking in the Kerch strait. Estimated to have13 crew members on each, rescue operation is ongoing. NOTE : the loss of these two tankers - both transporting a low-quality heavy fuel oil [mazut] - was due to weather conditions NOT actions by UKR. Sadly, the pollution has been quite significant, although some areas and birds were cleaned, there wasn't the political will to follow-up and finish the clearing up.
