CoLC - Food / non-alcohol inflation

Small image showing the CPI [Consumer Prices Index] for food & non-alcoholic drinks changes between 2010 and 2024 for both the UK and the post-brexit 27 nations still in the European Union.
There's a rise between late 2021 and mid-2023, after which it levels off to about the same rate as in 2016-2019.
I suspect there are several causes, mostly as a response to happenings in the rest of the world.
I would list i) the covid pandemic ii) brexit - UK's inflation has been less in absolute terms, but has still followed a similar profile iii) climate change induced supply difficulties and iv) Putin's ru55ian led and illegal invasion of Ukraine. These have had differing levels of influence over this post 2019 period.

Published in February 2024, Which? [UK's consumer rights organisation] carried out a price survey in the UK's leading food supermarkets by buying a list of 72 like-for-like items. The prices charged varied from £125.43 to £162.94 for a mixture of branded and own label items.
So much for "price matched" campaigns ...

Some of this peak was due to weather events - some of which were probably related to climate change - but, to me at least, the more significant factor was uncertainty generated by ru55ia's aggression and invasion of Ukraine [such as the export blockade and outright theft of grain and other items] and the economic sanctions that followed.
