TIG - UK fuel price ; RAC, 9th June 2022

A breakdown of the various costs within the price of a litre of petrol. Note 1 : Cost to supplier is sloppy terminology, what is actually meant is the wholesale cost of petrol to the filling station, ie what *they* pay the refinery / their wholesale supplier. This amount is heavily dependent on events in the wider world. Note 2 : Fuel duty and VAT [46%] both go to the government and are the only items over which the treasury has any degree of control. There was a recent 5p reduction in fuel duty, but most pump prices have not reflected the full amount - unlike what happens when duty is increased ! Note 3 : Biofuel content refers to the use of ethanol [which can be derived from fermenting otherwise waste grain] used to improve quality.
