nym[22] - window

An interior view in 23956, showing a damp patch on the window ledge / reveals. There is a leak coming to the surface here, right in the corner. I first noticed it with the coach in motion and very heavy rain falling, on the return from Pickering.

MF - cabin roof trial

26 Jul 2011 452
An early attempt at laying out the teak roof boards. This reclaimed teak was supplied by a timber reclamation business, and comprises what are effectively offcuts from the large quantity of stock material supplied for a high prestige flooring contract in central London about a decade ago.

Having worked out the layout, the boards have been turned and the lower side code-marked.

MF - cabin roof laid out

The final alignments of the dry fit; the lifted areas are the response of the flat teak to the curvature of the cabin roof underneath (and some rare bright sunshine).

Will it all fit ? - and is there enough ? - The cabin roof is three dimensional when compared to the flat floor used to test lay the teak.

The final area of the teak cabin roof / deck being sanded. Next stage will be teak oiling.

MF - new teak cabin roof

View of the teak cabin roof, side and foredecks. The cabin roof has just been laid, sanded and then teak oiled. The original fore and side decks have been sanded and also teak oiled.

Slightly longer view showing the teak cabin roof, side and foredecks, after sanding and an application of teak oil.

MF - almost all the deck

Looking along almost the full length of the fore-deck and cabin roof. Could be a little confusing to those expecting to see the typical painted plywood cabin roof normally seen on a Miller Fifer.

MF - deck almost finished

Further progress; installation of various grab rails, lights, mizzen mast step and the deck has had another dose of teak oil.

BM Tram - Blackpool 31 - panels 1

An area of paint damage has allowed water penetration, and some delamination could be occuring. The teak colour is a scumble type finish, and it seems to be very vunerable to scratching.
