Across the River Tummel, just downstream from the power station in Pitlochry

Pitlochry HEP station on River Tummel, built in the 1950s, with an installed capacity of 15MW. Part of the fish ladder in the foreground. There is a public walkway across the top of the dam, and fenced private access above the sluices. e2a - Further downstream there are notices warning of the potential for sudden rises in water level in the river flow. This can result from two factors, a) rapid increase in power generation resulting in an increase in the tail race or b) the large sluices in the dam can be lowered to reduce the water level in the reservoir, do that too quickly and a "tidal" wave goes downstream.
